ADA Services

  • Due to the historic nature of the Egyptian Theatre, built in 1929, the haunted house is not wheelchair accessible.
  • Individuals with disabilities are asked to review the scares present and decide if this attraction is appropriate. Because of the unique nature of this event, it may not be appropriate for every individual.
  • Handicapped parking spaces are available in the Van Buer Plaza parking lot located directly across the street from the theatre.

Age Restrictions

The Amenti Haunted House is recommended for 13 and older, but younger kids may go through if parents choose to bring them. Carrying babies through is NOT allowed. There are no refunds given for any age that cannot make it through the haunted house.

Alcohol

There is no alcohol sold at the haunted house. You are not allowed to bring alcohol in to the haunted house or have it with you while in line. Any individuals determined by management to be under the influence of any substance may be denied entry and given no refund.

Animals

The Egyptian Theatre has a strict policy towards animals on the premises and therefore does not allow animals or pets at The Egyptian Theatre under normal circumstances, with the exception of service animals such as guide dogs. The ADA defines a service animal as any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability.

ATM

There is an ATM in the theatre lobby for your convenience.

Box Office Hours

  • Tuesday’s 2:00 PM-6:00 PM
  • Thursday’s 11:00 AM-3:00 PM
  • Open at 7:00 PM each night of the haunted house
  • Closes each night of the haunted house at the posted end time

Cameras

Video and photos are only allowed outside or while waiting in line.

Coat Check

There is no coat check.

Concealed Carry

The Amenti Haunted House does not allow concealed carry on any portion of the property.

Concessions

Outside food or drink is not permitted.  Weather permitting there is a cash only concession stand located outside and is operated by local non-profit organizations.

Coupons

Discount coupons are available through the local print media and flyers around the community. Coupons are only valid for the current year and are only good for one ticket per coupon.

We accept Discover, MasterCard, and Visa at the Box Office, online and over the phone.

Doors Open

Doors will open at 7:00 PM each night. On a rare occasion there may be an issue that delays the opening of the front doors or start of the first group.

Dress Code

Items that are not allowed to be taken through include:

  • Masks
  • Large hats
  • Any handheld objects (i.e. weapons, wands, etc.)
  • Large bulky costumes that extend beyond the body and may get caught while going through the haunted house.

Elevator

Due to the historic nature of the Egyptian Theatre, built in 1929, there is no elevator in the building.

Group Rates

Group rates are available for groups that purchase 12 or more tickets together at one time. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Contact our box office at 815-758-1225.

Gift Certificates

Gift certificates are not currently available.

Handouts/Leaflets/Vending

The distribution of promotional items, flyers, handbills or printed materials is not permitted without written permission of The Egyptian Theatre. Historic Egyptian Theatre

Line

On Friday, Saturday and Halloween the line typically starts to form 30 to 45 minutes before the doors open. Sunday nights the line typically starts about 15 minutes before the doors open. There is a small area that is inside before the box office. The line after the box office to enter is all inside. Depending on the length of the line it will extend outside where not all parts are covered.

Length

Amenti will take you throughout the historic Egyptian Theatre taking you to six different levels featuring over 20 different scenes. It usually takes a group 15-25 minutes to go through once you start. Times will vary depending on your groups speed, group spacing and other factors.

The Amenti Haunted House takes place inside the historic Egyptian Theatre in Downtown DeKalb, IL located at 135 N. 2nd Street.

Lost and Found

We do not stop the production to search for lost or missing items.  All lost or missing items will be searched for after the close of business.  We are not liable for lost or missing items. Notify the box office of your missing item with a description and your contact information.

Mailed Tickets

If your tickets are to be mailed, you should receive them within a reasonable amount of time, generally 7 to 10 business days. If you do not, please contact the Egyptian Theatre Box Office – no later than 24 hours before the day of the event to insure proper attention.

General admission tickets can be purchased online in advance by visiting www.amenti.info.

Payment Types Accepted

Box Office: We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit cards/debit cards.
Checks made payable to the Egyptian Theatre with drivers license are accepted.
Concessions: Cash only

Photography

Video and photos are only allowed outside or while waiting in line.

Priority Pass

Purchase a priority pass and skip the wait in line. You can purchase online in advance or the night of from a staff member in line. The priority pass will get you straight to the front of the line.

Proceeds

The proceeds from this event go towards the ongoing operations and building improvement of the historic Egyptian Theatre which is owned and operated by a non-profit organization.

Refunds

All sales are final. No refunds are given for any reason. No exceptions.

Resale Tickets

The Egyptian Theatre can only provide customer care, and service, for tickets purchased through the Egyptian Theatre or its affiliates. Tickets that have been purchased via resale cannot be guaranteed.

Reservations

Reservations are not available. The Amenti Haunted House is first come, first served. However, you can avoid long lines by purchasing a Priority Pass.

Restrooms

Portable restrooms will be available outside next to the front of the building.  There are no restrooms available for use inside the building.

Scares

The Amenti Haunted House includes long twisting and winding darkness, loud startling noises, fog, strobes, special effects, scents, and of course dozens of live actors hidden to scare you as you walk through.

Security

There is security that monitors the line and groups as they go through the haunted house. Any guest caught touching any actors or props will be asked to leave and will not be given a refund.

Smoke/Fog

There are fog effects used throughout the haunted house. All fluids used are water based and approved to be used around people.

Smoking

By law, smoking in all areas of building is prohibited. You may smoke outside the building in accordance with State of Illinois law.

Spooktacular

Downtown DeKalb presents Spooktacular: Saturday, October 25, 2014 (1:00pm-3:00pm).  Downtown merchants will be handing out candy to those kids who come in costume to trick-or-treat. Amenti will be open during this event offering a bite-size kid friendly portion of the haunted house to go through for free. 

Strobe Lights

Strobe lights are used throughout different parts of the haunted house. If you have any health concerns that this could affect you are warned not to enter.

Tickets

Tickets can be ordered online. Tickets can be purchased over the phone by calling 815-758-1225.  Tickets can also be purchased during box office hours, Tickets can be held at Will Call, mailed, or printed at home.

Tight Spaces

There are a number of tight, dark, winding spaces.

Touching

The actors inside/outside the Haunted House may get very close or even brush by you, but they will not grab you. Guests are not allowed to touch any actors or props at any time. Any guest caught doing so will be escorted out and will not be given a refund.

Weather

Since the Amenti Haunted House takes place entirely inside, weather does not affect our operation. We will be open rain or shine.

Wheelchair Accessibility

Unfortunately the Amenti Haunted House is not wheelchair accessible due to the unique nature of the historic Egyptian Theatre.

Will Call

If your tickets are to be “held at will call”, they will be at the box office for pick-up. You MUST have a photo ID or the credit card you used to purchase the tickets in order to pick them up.  The signor of the credit card used for the purchase will be required to sign for the tickets in order to pick them up.
